How does journalism work in Munich? What are the main forms, journalism can take? During this course the students look into journalistic forms of communication in professional journalism. You will attend different field trips and visit communication departments in Munich and learn about workflows in online, print and broadcast media. Talks with professionals provide insights into the world of journalism within the media landscape in Munich. Participants apply their knowledge by creating their own weblog. The weblog will be produced independently by the students during the semester.

This crash course for exchange students only focuses on scientific basics, dos and don‘ts in writing an academic (research) report - especially in the field of communication: knowledge of the most relevant libraries and online catalogs, use of important digital databases, central sources, online search methods, quotation and bibliography exercises.

How do media work in Munich? How does the German media landscape look like? Which institutions are important, who works there and what do they actually do all day?

This seminar focuses on professional communication in online, print and broadcasting media. Students take part in several field trips to different media companies in and around Munich, communication professionals give a talk and students try out to write in different journalistic styles. The acquired knowledge will be implemented in a weblog written by the participating students.

Number of ECTS points: 7 (with more workload up to 10 ECTS possible).
