Dear Students,
Welcome to our course Pharmacology and Toxicology to Natural Scientists - Principles of Human Disease and Treatment.
The module is open for master students of all natural sciences programs (Biology, Human Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry) and is composed of a lecture, a seminar and an individual 8-week research laboratory internship. For the lecture and the seminar, no further course prerequisites are necessary although students are expected to have a solid background in biochemistry and physiology.
Registration opens on October 2, 2026, either directly via email (ingrid.boekhoff@lrz.uni-muenchen.de) or via self-enrollment on our Moodle learning platform (https://moodle.lmu.de/course/view.php?id=11319, key: pharmacology). In order to finalize your enrollment, we need your campus-Email, your enrollment number and your course of study as well as the number of the current semester.
Our first lecture will be on Monday, 12 October 2026 in Großhadern (Großhad. Str. 9 (N) - N 02.017 (14.30 PM). The seminar will start at 14 October 2026 (Walther-Straub-Institute, Pettenkoferstr. 14, F 1.12 CIP Room).

Seminar (7C1309): “Understanding Human Diseases: Principles of Molecular Mechanisms and Treatment”.
Course Description: Students are required to make an oral presentation of a research article describing original research to contemporary pharmacology and toxicology.
Grading Policy: Grading is based on satisfaction of the attendance requirement and satisfactory evaluation of the oral presentation.
Research laboratory internship (7C1307): “Principles of Human Disease and Treatment”
Course Description: The individual research laboratory internships are arranged by teaching staff members of different groups of the Walther-Straub-Institute according to current research topics. Students are required to work independently under close supervision of an instructor and will learn specialized techniques used in the corresponding research field.
Grading Policy: Research labs last for the equivalent of eight full-time working weeks in the lab and subsequent preparation of a written lab report and an oral progress presentation.
