Scientific insights typically are produced by practitioners who operate within expert communities. However, these insights often are transferred out of these expert communities via the mechanics of scientific communication. These communication practices can both benefit and harm society at large. In this course, we will study scientific communication from the lens of philosophy. We will investigate the nature of scientific communication, highlighting its purpose and mechanics. Likewise, we will investigate its consequences, including the epistemic and ethical challenges that are faced when communicating science.
