This seminar will take a detailed look at the political and military history of the conflict in Southeast Asia which began long before the "American war." Based on documents and secondary literature we will also discuss the "War at Home," the role of the press, the fate of the veterans (homecoming, PTSD), war and memory (monuments), popular culture (film and literature), and finally the "Vietnam syndrome" and the "lessons” of the war.
