This course will give you an overview of the major fields of English linguistics (phonetics and phonology, morphology and word-formation, lexicology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, historical linguistics, etymology, and sociolinguistics). It will introduce you to major theoretical approaches and key concepts in the study of language.  The aim of ‘Introduction to Linguistics’ course is to provide students with a broad theoretical basis for further specialization and introduce them to the main methods in linguistics. The course is a prerequisite for studying further linguistic disciplines.
