Chicago 1968 - Politics, Protest, and Police at the Democratic National Convention
The class will look at one of the focal events of the 1960s. At the Chicago National Convention in 1968, mashine politics went up against the counterculture, police brutality hit the media, and the Democratic Party was caught in an identity crisis between progressive action and old establishment. We will tackle the complex event from the planning phase to the aftermath, looking at all the different stake holders and how what happened still informs discourses today.
