The class will discuss capitalism/neoliberalism as not only an economic
system, but an ideology with cultural influence. We will analyze and
compare several contemporary novels and short stories to learn how
narratives develop under the conditions of neoliberalism, and what that
means for literature as a cultural form. The class will take place
primarily in English but students can submit their final essays in
English or German.
