Watergate is still regarded as the biggest political scandal in US history and has been frequently evoked during the Trump presidency. Watergate led to a constitutional crisis during which President Richard Nixon was forced to resign before being impeached. Based on primary sources like the Watergate tapes we will analyze the developments of the scandal, from the reelection campaign to the break-in, the investigations and the cover-ups, Nixon's resignation as well as the aftermath incl. Gerald Ford pardoning Nixon, the Frost-Nixon interviews and major investigative committees as well as reform efforts. And, of course, we will take a look at events unfolding in Washington today.
