Content:

The lecture “Heart, Lung and Metabolism: From basic Physiology to Pathophysiological Processes and advanced Therapies” is a team-taught series lecture given by several instructors. The lecture will cover basic principles of the physiology but also pathomechanisms of the cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic systems and will give an overview of current but also novel therapeutic strategies. The lecture is given weekly (2 SWS) and requires regular attendance and a final exam.

Learning outcomes:

Students will understand normal heart, lung and metabolic functions and will learn how and why these systems are changed upon corresponding chronic diseases; in addition, students will get familiar with commonly used therapies but will also realize the need for novel therapeutic options.

 Students are required to pass a written comprehensive exam that will be taken at the end of the semester.
