This course consists of select case studies on the dynamics of changing human-environment relations from the Neolithic through the early medieval period in East Asia. Students will learn pertinent theories and methodologies to assess ancient lifeways and their sustainability through records of material cultures and historical texts.
Sinology students are required to use sources in modern and/or Classical Chinese in their class assignments.
