(Mathematik, Physik, Nachrichtentechnik, Medizin) angesprochen. Die
Vorlesung bildet die Basis für die stärker ins technische Detail gehende
Lehrveranstaltung "Medientechnik" und stellt die Grundlagen für
vertiefende Lehrangebote zu Multimedia-Themen bereit.

The lecture provides an introduction to stochastic calculus with an emphasis on the mathematical concepts that are later used in the mathematical modeling of financial markets.
In the first part of the
lecture course the theory of stochastic integration with respect to
Brownian motion and Ito processes is developed. Important results such
as Girsanov's theorem and the martingale representation theorem are also
covered. The first part concludes with a chapter on the existence and
uniqueness of strong and weak solutions of stochastic differential
equations.
The second part of the lecture course gives an introduction to the arbitrage theory of financial markets in continuous time driven by Brownian motion. Key concepts are the absence of arbitrage, market completeness, and the risk neutral pricing and hedging of contingent claims. Particular attention will be given to the the Black-Scholes model and the famous Black-Scholes formula for pricing call and put options.

Synopsis
(Linear) Functional analysis can be viewed as "linear algebra on infinite-dimensional vector spaces".
As such it is a merger of analysis and linear algebra. The concepts and results of functional analysis are important to a number of other mathematical disciplines, e.g., numerical mathematics, approximation theory, partial differential equations, and also to stochastics; not to mention that the mathematical foundations of quantum physics rely entirely on functional analysis. This course will present the standard introductory material to functional analysis: topological foundations, Banach and Hilbert spaces, dual spaces, Hahn-Banach thm., Baire thm., open mapping thm., closed graph thm., weak topologies. If time permits we will also cover Fredholm theory for compact operators and the spectral theorem.

A Lie group is a group which is also a smooth manifold, in way that the group multiplication and the inversion are smooth maps. Examples of Lie groups are matrix groups like the linear group GL(n,R) or the orthogonal group O(n). Lie groups play an important role in many parts of mathematics and physics. They almost inevitably occur when a problem or configuration is invariant under symmetries.
In the lecture we will discuss structural results about Lie groups as well as examples and applications. An important tool will be the Lie functor, which assigns to every Lie group its so-called Lie algebra. The Lie algebra is an infinitesimal version of the Lie group that encodes surprisingly much information about it, and that can be well studied via methods from linear algebra. This will allow us to establish a classification of complex semi-simple Lie algebras and of compact Lie groups. In doing so we will argue from a geometric perspective whenever possible. In particular, we will follow an approach suggested by Cartan that is more geometric than the standard one.

The master thesis concludes the scientific education of the master study programme in actuarial sciences. During a time span of about 13 weeks the students will work inde-pendently, but under scientific tutoring upon a subject that is based on bases and actual re-sults of their special field of work. In line with the main area of research of the teacher the thesis may for example cover one of the fol-lowing subjects: - Life insurance - Pensions insurance - Property/casualty insurance - Financial mathematics - Probability theory - Risk management - Reinsurance - Health insurance

Description:
In this course we present the basic and fundamental mathematical tools allowing to formulate and use quantum mechanics. In its early days, quantum mechanics have seen two mathematical apparatus competing to formalize it: Heisenberg's matrix mechanics and Schrödinger's wave mechanics. As we will see, these two pictures are in fact equivalent and can be unified using the tools of spectral theory, functional analysis, harmonic analysis, etc.

Description
The overall subject is Many-body Quantum mechanics. We will start with atoms and molecules and prove the famous theorem on stability of matter, which says that the energy of a system with N electrons and M nulclei can bounded from below by -C(N+M). Subsequently we show the existence of the thermodynamic limit of Coulomb systems. Next we study bosonic systems, recall the original argument of Bose and Einstein, and then prove Bose-Einstein-Condensation for interacting systems. Next, we study fermionic systems modeling metals and describe the Hartree-Fock approximation, followed by studying the correlation energy, including recent results. Finally we consider the mathematical properties of the BCS theory of superconductivity, and compare with results from the physics literature.

The course is one of the compulsory modules in the Master's Program in Economics. The purpose of the course is to provide students with the mathematical background for their subsequent study of economics. Sometimes we will go over proofs of theorems, but sometimes we will only explain the intuition behind the theorems and focus on their applications in economics. The course will be taught in English. It consists of a lecture and an accompanying problem-solving class (i.e., the tutorial).
The enrollment key is in the comment on LSF.
